Do you experience stabbing pain under your heel, especially with your first steps in the morning? At Podotherapie Rotterdam, we treat heel spurs effectively using proven methods. Approximately 85% of our patients are free of symptoms within 6 to 8 weeks.
A heel spur is a calcium deposit on the underside of the heel bone, caused by prolonged overloading of the plantar fascia. This connective tissue band runs from the heel to the toes and plays an important role in walking. When this structure is subjected to prolonged strain, inflammation can develop, leading to a heel spur.
The pain is not directly caused by the bony growth itself, but by the inflammation of the plantar fascia. That is why in podiatry we also refer to this condition as plantar fascia complaints or plantar fasciitis.

Stabbing or burning pain under or at the front of the heel
Pain and stiffness with the first steps in the morning (start-up pain)
Pain that improves after some movement but returns after prolonged standing or walking
Pain after a period of rest, for example after sitting for a long time
Tenderness when pressure is applied to the underside of the heel
Increasing exercise intensity too quickly or standing for extended periods at work.
An abnormal foot position increases tension on the plantar fascia.
Limited ankle mobility places extra strain on the plantar fascia.
Shoes without adequate support or cushioning.
Additional load on the feet during walking and standing.
Runners are particularly susceptible due to the repeated impact on the heel.
Our podiatrist first performs a comprehensive assessment by examining the entire biomechanical chain. Based on the findings, we create a treatment plan that may include podiatric orthotic insoles, fascia therapy, medical taping, a personalised exercise programme, and footwear advice.
Treatment is covered by supplementary health insurance, and the mandatory excess (deductible) does not apply.
